Hello there! Thank you very much for your lovely comment. :)
I was born in a Japanese family, and raised up in foreign country.
So I could only speak Japanese with my parents, who taught me how to read and write Japanese.
But I also learnt a lot from other media as well.
I learnt Japanese from watching movies(anime) and reading books (mainly manga). I really love to learn visually, so it helped me a lot.
If you are not so keen on anime or manga, I recommend you to watch movies from Studio Ghibli (such as Spirited Away, Totoro, etc.) with substitle. They are categorized as Japanese cartoon, but they are in a different style than what people usually call ‘Anime’.
If I would teach my friend Japanese, I will probably introduce them to the fun side first. :) Japanese manga in hand, anime in front of me, and I will try my best to follow (play & pause) the story to check the pronounciation and learn the text from manga.
It’s easier if you could get the comic version from the movie like this one for spirited away.
Good luck, and I hope you’ll have fun learning Japanese! :)
Have a wonderful Sunday.
